Design Objective

The 2017 visual direction was driven by process. We really strived to showcase organized chaos, as it’s inevitable when getting from point A to point B during the creative process. Art directing a small multidisiplinary group of creatives lead my team to the visuals that were used across a large span of various deliverables.

Brand Guidelines

To ensure consistency throughout the conference, graphics team created a style guide that included specifics on typefaces, colors, logo usage, and layouts. Throughout the duration of the process, the team was available for consultation amongst other areas the teams were working on. It was crucial to ensure consistency through all of the digital and tangible components. The initial visual direction set the stepping stone for the rest of the event - such as wayfinding, website, lounge, etc.

Because we had a large general team working on materials for the event, the graphics team had to make sure all digital and printed materials for the conference were consistent and followed the same visual guidelines. To ensure this, we created a style guide that included specifics on typefaces, colors, logo usage, and layouts.

Process

The 2017 conference's style direction was inspired by the process of abstraction and experimentation. The imagery was created using laser-cut materials, projection, and reflection. Through exploration, and many hours spent playing around the team established a variety of visuals intended to be used throughout the conference.

The visuals captured the collaborative and sometimes chaotic spirit of Thought At Work. They express the interdisciplinary efforts that are channeled into a final product.
